New Year Resolutions: Five Lessons To Learn From The “Olamide and Don Jazzy” Brawl

While a lot of us were busy exchanging pleasantries, drafting resolutions and wishing each other a happy new year, the brawl between YBNL’s Olamide and MAVIN’s Donjazzy was steaming hot. A lot of us woke up to this news and how things went down at the Headies.
Celebrities and everyone have taken to the social media to voice their opinions and defend who they think was right or wasn’t.
I tried to avoid doing a piece on it but voices kept talking in my head and finally I decided to write about it. I’m not in anyway going to defend or lash out on any of the parties because diplomacy is needed in some cases.

However, in course of this event, I’d like to point out some notable lessons we can pick out and fix into our new year resolution.

1)     Know when to stand up for what’s yours or defend your team and be strategic in doing that.

2)    Do not in anyway drag yourself in an issue if you’re not directly mentioned. Don’t jump into fire because you assumed a ranting person was indirectly referring to you(even if they were) and if you must talk, pick your words carefully to avoid an unnecessary clash.

3) Silence is golden.
a) sometimes things may not go as we expect them to, but just be calm about it everything would fall into place at the right time.
b) you don’t have to give a reply to every ill thing someone says to you, no matter how annoying. Be the brave and matured one and walk away.

4) a. Every battle isn’t meant for you, chose your battle wisely and in doing that chose ones that’d yield something positive in the long run.
    b. Don’t ever ever blow your trumpet, that is the job of those who care about you, love you loyally and want to see you grow.

5) Finally brethren, if you feel you’re not getting the respect or recognition you deserve, don’t work yourself up over it. Good things come to those who wait.
Just pray to the Lord and keep doing what you’re doing diligently, grace would find you anywhere.

I hope we’ve learnt one or two things from this post. Don’t keep your thoughts to yourself, tell them to me in the comment box below. 🙂

  1. The brawl went viral on the net….. I had to quit what I was doing and research the whole issue…..! To me, Olamide was wild but smart and Olamide had been preparing himself and his crew for all out war for a while and don Jazzy just bit the bait cause baddo never mentioned names before Jazzy insulted him. They need to settle this issue, amicably cause lyrically and street wise, I don’t think anyone in d industry can endure need with Eyan mayweather. Just see what happened to #LeaveTrashForLawma after he rhymed with it. You’ve spoken well!

    1. Exactly, the whole issue could have been handled well but I guess both parties were pained and had their own reasons for what they said. However, with time …things would fall into place.

  3. Well, I would actually say reading this write up provides very important lessons that would last me a life time… #i don’t know how you do it, but you do it well… #keep up the good work.

  4. Thanks a lot for this beautiful and poignant piece. Who could have ever thought it that there were lessons to learn from an internet brawl between two celebrities? In my mind lies a city and in that city lies a dark alley, you have brough light to that alley with this write-up. Well written, Charlene! God bless you for this. And thanks to Phlow for recommending this to me. Cheers.
